Modern Myth, Poetry, Theme
Talk to Ms. Ashcraft or Mr. Dean for ideas. |

Modern Myth
|
The Modern Myth must be either an
original myth to explain the existence of some phenomenon in nature or a
classical myth in a modern setting, which should be clearly recognizable
from the plot. The writer should be careful not to contradict existing
myths. New characters and/or adventures may be invented, but no tampering
with basic and traditional mythology should occur. The myth should be no
longer than 1000 words and no shorter than 500 words. Myths which have
over 1000 words or fewer than 500 words will have points deducted from the
total score on the basis of one point per 100 words, with a maximum of 10.
Entries must be typed and
double-spaced. Four copies of the entry should be submitted along with one
Pre-Convention Contest Registration Form found in the Convention
registration packet or via the web site if such options are available. The
title only should appear at the top of each copy of the entry. The myths
become the sole property of the OJCL and cannot be returned. If there are
at least 30 entries, the contest will be divided into upper and lower
levels at an appropriate point. The winning myths of both levels will be
published in the Torch.

double-spaced copies of the entry should be submitted along with one
Pre-Convention Contest Registration Form found in the Convention
registration packet. The title only should appear at the top of each copy of
the entry. The poems become the sole property of the OJCL and cannot be

Theme
|
| A
Classics-related quote or idea that may be considered for next year's OJCL
Convention theme. Each entry should be submitted on a 3x5 index card, with
the theme on the front and the delegate's name and school on the reverse
side. The Executive Board will judge the entries. If the Board members find
none of the entries acceptable, then they have the option of choosing an
appropriate theme. Classical quotes should include citation of the author
and work, as well as a translation. No sweepstakes points are awarded for
this contest. |
