Project for Vergil’s Aeneid

 

Every year, the Latin program hosts the Celebration of the Classics, a marathon reading of  an important work from classical literature.  This year, we will read Virgil’s Aeneid.  As part of this event, all Latin students will complete a project on a story from Ovid.  Stories will be randomly assigned.  Stories may be traded with others in the same grade.

 

Schedule of Assignments

 

1.  A Summary of the Story in Your Own Words    Due: 7th/8th Grade/US:   Thursday, March 20

                                                                                       6th Grade:  Monday, April 7th and 8th

Rules:  This is a pre-project graded homework assignment – 50 points

1. The document must be typed, double-spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman font

2. The margins should be one inch, top, bottom, left and right.

3. You must save your document in a file that you can access to make revisions.

4. You must type your name and the title of story at the top of the page.

5. Write the summary of your story in your own words in a paragraph of 5-8 complete sentences.

6. There should not be misspellings or serious grammar/punctuation problems

    (use spell-check and grammar-check if you are unsure)!

 

2. A List of Details from Your Story          Due: 7th/8th Grade/US:   Thursday, March 20

     e.g., people, objects, places - do not include abstract details like love, fear, etc

6. You will explain how or why each of your details is relevant to the story.

7. There should not be misspellings or serious grammar/punctuation problems;

    (use spell-check and grammar-check if you are unsure)!

 

3. Polished Summary, Details and other Info:         Due: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 ALL STUDENTS 6-12

Rules:  This is a graded homework assignment due with project– 50 points

1. Information will be submitted on-line using Ms. Ashcraft’s web page after project is complete.        

2. You will cut and paste your polished summary into the web page.

3. You will re-type or paste your details with relevance into web page.

4. You will answer completely all additional questions about your project on the web page.       

           

4. Final Completed Project:         100 points            Due: Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 ALL STUDENTS 6-12

 

1. You have 6 choices:  mosaic, model, dramatic interpretation, 3D chart, doll, Illustrated Children's Book;

    Multimedia (8th & above only)

2. Follow the precise instructions & grading policy for each choice.

1.  Print directly from the web page.  (This format will print all of the link buttons that you see above.)

2. Highlight all of the text of the rubric.  Copy and paste the text into a new Word document and print that.  (This format captures only the text and title and saves about 1/3 page.)
