ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY INSTRUCTIONS
In order to show that there are enough sources available to do the topic you have chosen you must submit an annotated bibliography on your topic. You may add to it later, but if that involves deleting nearly everything then it will affect your grade.
This should be done in the format in your research handbook for a Works Cited Page. The closer you are to getting the format right now the less work you have to do for the works cited page of the paper. The only difference is that it says Annotated Bibliography instead of Works Cited and you are annotating (writing beneath the citation) including where you found each source, how many pages it is, and why you think it should count. Entries should be separated into two categories: Primary and Secondary Sources. Entries should be alphabetized within each category. You must at least show enough sources to meet the source requirement for the paper, however, it is strongly recommended that you include more since not all sources work out in the end. The better job you do now of locating sources and scanning enough to make sure they are on your topic, the more time you will save yourself later.

This source is a slave narrative. This slave spends a lot of time talking about her religious life and the rituals she followed. It will let me write about how slaves practiced their religion and how important it was to them. I found it in the database History Resource Center and it is 11 pages long.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This source is the diary of a slave owner’s wife and she talks about the religious meetings of her slaves and how her husband felt about them. It should let me talk about the perspective of the slave owners. I found it in the book Slaves Speak located at UC and it is 5 pages long.
Secondary Sources
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This source is a monograph specifically about the elements of African religions that were carried over into the religious life of North American slaves. It should be useful for a section in my paper on the continued connection between African culture and the slaves. I found it at the Summit library and the chapter I want to use is 32 pages long.

This source is about how slaves used religion to feel better about themselves and to survive slavery. It should help when I write about why slaves were religious. It is an article, I found it in the JSTOR database and it is 24 pages long.
