Homecoming 2009 - Spirit Week Activities, Football Game and the Dance
- September 21 through 26th - See you there! If you want to get involved the
groups working on these events are senate, the HOUSE, and spirit club. Spirit Week and Homecoming 2009 is Sept 21-26th. Throughout the week there are many events at The Summit but we felt it would be helpful to provide you some information pertaining specifically to our Upper School Activities.
Crazy Dress Days The Student Senate will select out of uniform “theme” days for each day of the week. Students have the choice to be in uniform or to dress appropriately for school in the intended spirit of the day.
Spirit Games The Student Senate will facilitate some silly and fun activities at each of the morning assemblies through the week. The student reps for each grade will assist in providing volunteers to participate.
Powder Puff Football On Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 there will be a powder puff football game on Williams’ field, junior girls vs. senior girls. There are boys from each grade that coach the teams and the game will be officiated by teachers. The students and faculty attend this event and parents are welcome.
Friday All School Pep Rally On Friday afternoon at 2:30 there is an all school pep rally on Williams’ field. The theme for the pep rally is “Rock the Castle”. The Spirit Club prepares and facilitates this event. The students and faculty attend this event and parents are welcome.
Friday Night Football and Homecoming Court The homecoming court is elected by the faculty and students from each grade. There are 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, 2 juniors and 4 seniors on the court. The court is introduced at halftime of the game; the king and queen (top voted seniors) are crowned at the dance on Saturday. The court represents Summit students who are actively involved in the school community. Students and advisors from each grade will nominate students for their grade’s ballot. The students are then asked if they wish to be included on the ballot and by doing so agree to fully participate in the activities of the court. Those activities include; being a part of the pep rally, being dressed up and being introduced on the field at the football game, and being at the dance until after 11:30 when the court is again introduced and the crowning takes place. Dance The dance is Saturday 9pm to midnight in Holmes gym. The dance is chaperoned by the faculty and US administration. At The Summit there are 3 Upper School dances each year. The homecoming and winter dances are semi formal, the prom is formal. Semi formal means that students are dressed in dress pants and shirts, skirts or dresses – appropriate to a school event. Students do not have to wear ties, jackets or formal evening dresses. Students may not wear shorts, t shirts, jeans, sweats or casual golf shirts. The formal prom requires tuxedoes or suits and formal evening dresses appropriate for a school event. Our dances are not costume parties and we ask that students not wear themed costumes or outfits. Our homecoming and winter dances are free, students must be present by 10:00pm and once they leave they may not return, and the school does not sponsor any events before or after the dances. Students may bring guests from other schools but must have returned a guest request signed by parents and a school administrator from the guest’s school to our office before the day of the dance. This last policy is meant to provide additional safety for the event. Parents will be contacted by the chaperones if there are any problems or concerns with a student during the dance. If a student is unable to meet the behavioral expectations of the school the parents will be contacted and the student will be sent home.
