From the SCD Upper School Handbook:

  1. The Christian Service requirement for graduation includes 48 hours of service which meets the definition noted in the link above.
  2. Hours are reported to the Service Coordinator.  To report hours a student records what they did, where they did it, how long they did it and then gets the signature and phone number of the agency coordinator or adult project facilitator.
  3. The Service Coordinator then reviews the hours and if they obviously meet the graduation requirement they are recorded (in both digital and hardcopy forms).
  4. If the Service Coordinator does not see how the hours meet the graduation requirement he/she will meet with the student submitting the hours.
  5. If it then becomes clear how the hours meet the graduation requirement, the hours will be recorded.
  6. If, after conversing with the student, the Service Coordinator is still not able to understand how the hours meet our graduation requirement, the student submitting the hours will be invited to write a more descriptive report of the service they performed and how it meets the noted definition.  This description is then presented to the Student Senate by the Service Coordinator.
  7. The Student Senate will then make a recommendation to the Service Coordinator that the hours be counted, that they not be counted or that they need further information (at which time the student submitting the hours will be invited to a Senate meeting by the Service Coordinator).  If the student submitting the hours wishes to appear before the Senate to present their situation to the Senate they will do so and the Senate will make a recommendation regarding the hours.
  8. After this process has been completed, the Service Coordinator will inform the student submitting the hours whether or not they count towards the graduation requirement.  If they do, the Service Coordinator will record the hours.  If they do not, the Service Coordinator will reply, in writing, to the student submitting the hours in writing.
  9. The Service Coordinator is available to pre-approve projects as being able to fulfill graduation hours prior to the event (while not required, this is suggested).
