Levels
of Service
Level
1: Provide Hope
At
this level of service, people in need are offered hope that they can get
themselves out of their current “lacking” situation.
They are told, by others who have experienced it, that what they need is
accessible to them if they only look in the right areas.
Level
2: Meet a basic need
At
this level of service, people in need receive something which fulfills their
immediate need. It is a temporary
fix as they remain dependent on the provider of the goods to get their needs
met.
Level
3: Teach them how to get their own basic needs met
At
this level of service, people in need are taught specific skills to meet their
own needs. Often times this happens as a result of Level 1 & 2
having occurred.
Level
4: Community organizing
At this level of
service, people in need are taught how to help each other.
They are empowered to organize their community so that each person has
the ability to work to meet the needs of the entire group.
Level
5: Laws - "Make
it legal to fish
At this level of
service, unjust laws and norms are addressed so that each member of the
community has the opportunity to get their needs met and to meet the needs of
others within the community. |
