The religious development of each student is a prime purpose of The Summit Christian Service program.  Students serve each other, here in the Summit community and, in addition, they  reach out in service to those in our greater Cincinnati community. This service offers our students the opportunity to make a difference in the world around them while learning more about who they are through relationship with others.

Vision Statement
To increase and instill Catholic Christian values through works of charity or social action, so that all participants may better understand the presence of Christ in all people and recognize their God given worth.

Definition
Those projects or actions that enable the Summit student to interact with a person in need as exemplified by Christ:

  • Aiding the outcasts

  • Caring for the earth

  • Clothing the naked

  • Defending the persecuted

  • Feeding the hungry

  • Housing the homeless

  • Ministering to the sick

  • Preaching the gospel

  • Taking care of the poor - economically disadvantaged

-----------------------------------------------------
* Those projects or actions that enable the Summit student to work with an approved environmental protection agency for the responsible stewardship of the  earth and its resources (a total of 8 hours of the 48 hour requirement may be achieved through this type of project or action).

Distribution of Hours
Every Upper School student is required to complete 48 hours of applicable community service.  The ideal scenario for completing hours would be:

* Students complete 12 hours of service for each of their four years in the Upper School (totaling 48 hours by the second semester of their Senior year).

* Students would complete the first 24 of those hours in various agencies (working to get a variety of direct service experiences) and then complete the rest of the hours in one or two agencies (getting to know the inner workings of a service organization).

Reporting Hours
Hours can be reported by writing down:

* What the service was

* When the service was done

* The number of hours direct service was provided

* Getting the signature of the project supervisor on the letter

* Submit the signed letter to the Campus Minister
