Summit IGknight

Music and Movement Program
Classes for Parents and Children (Birth to
30 months)

Psychologists, neuroscientists and experts in early childhood development have demonstrated that music helps the brain
make the connections needed for virtually every kind of intelligence. Our Summit IGknight program is built on this research and led by Donna Dirksing Doran, Elementary Music Specialist at The Summit.

Research shows when babies and toddlers are consistently engaged by music in an age-appropriate setting they benefit at many levels:
• They gain the phonological processing, spoken language, and comprehension skills that are the foundation of reading.
• They build the spatial-temporal and reasoning skills required for math and science.
• They develop social and emotional skills that are essential for school readiness.
• They develop their ability to regulate their responses and relate to others.
• They improve their gross and fine motor skills through movement to music and playing simple instruments.

Ignite your baby’s body and mind while experiencing music and movement together. Activities in these classes are designed to stimulate your baby’s mind and body and can be replicated at home.  Aimed at the youngest musician, you and your child will strengthen your everlasting bond while exploring age-appropriate instruments, songs, stories, movement and dance.

Parents can choose from one of the following three class meeting times. Out of respect for our registered members, please note that all siblings five months and older must be registered for class in order to attend. Except in the case of twins, each sibling needs to have his or her own caregiver to work with during class. Each class is limited to 12 students. Once parents choose a class time, they will stay at that time through the completion of the session. Classes will be held in the Montessori Library:

  • Option 1: Monday  8:30-9:15 a.m.
  • Option 2: Monday 9:30-10:15 a.m.
  • Option 3: Wednesday 9-9:45 a.m.
