 Reading/Language Arts

The children are enjoying Dear Mr. Henshaw and doing a wonderful job with creating their books.  They have had an opportunity to complete several activities for class books.  Be sure to look for one coming to your home soon!!

We are still collecting postmarks and have collected about 25 states so far.  We Are Going To Keep On Looking!!!!!  We have also been discussing how a letter travels from their own mailbox to the person they are sending it to.  I have also contacted our local Post Office and am trying to arrange for them to come and give a presentation to the students.

We have started Vocabulary Workshop and are about to finish with unit 1.  The Quia Games at the top are a great way to study for the test.  There is also a website in the vocabulary book that has games as well.

Math

We have settled into our group routine and the children are getting better at recording in their journal.  I am impressed with how much progress they have made with using more math language when trying to explain an activity or concept.

They have a good understanding of how to complete the Positive Snake Game and are ready to be introduced to the Negative Snake Game.  This is a great activity and quite challenging for the students.

Mrs. Almaguer has been coming and working with students as a class as well as individually.  This has allowed me to do more individualized instruction and given me an opportunity to observe the students.

It is important for the students to be practicing basic facts each evening.  They may use any of the cards and dice games, computer games, or flashcards to help in this process.  If you would like extra sheets sent home of any of the four operations, just let me know, and I would be more than happy to send them.
