Mrs. Schneider's Spooky Math Story Problems

My class wrote some spooky math problems using addition and subtraction.  You can see if you can figure them out.

 

Matthew saw a vampire chasing 8 people.  He caught 3 of them.  How many people are still running?

 Gabby saw 3 ghosts. Three more ghosts came to play.  How many in all?

 Michaela saw 10 white cats at night.  Five ran away.  How many are left?

 Erin saw 5 black cats on Halloween.  Two ran away.  How many are left?

Humphrey saw 1 ghosts running around his T.V. Five more came.  How many in all?

Elizabeth carved 2 pumpkins.  Then she carved 2 more.  How many in all?

 Harris saw 10 spiders climbing up his leg.  He swatted two of them away. How many are left?

 Conor gave candy to 8 trick-or-treaters.  Two of them slow down.  How many are left?

Grant saw 6 ghosts in a graveyard.  Five more came out of the graves.  How many in all?

 Mona saw 8 jack-o-lanterns near the road.  Two of them got squashed.  How many are left?

Claire found 4 witches in her bedroom.  Then 5 more came.  How many in all?

 Eliza saw 2 witches flying on their brooms.  Two of them fell off.  How many are left?

 Sydney heard 5 ghosts in her bedroom.  Two more came in her room.  How many in all?

 Margeaux sent 4 trick-or-treaters in a haunted house.  Then two more trick-or-treaters came, too.  How many in all?

Kees heard 5 bats hanging in a cave.  Then 5 more flew in.  How many in all?

Jack found 10 Frankensteins in his dad's bathroom.  Eight went away.  How many are left?

Alex was looking for ghosts and found five of them.  Three ghosts got scared and flew away.  How many are left?  Alex

Mrs. Schneider was looking for her first grade class.  She found 10 hairy spiders in her room.  She tried to scare them away, but only 8 left.  How many hairy spiders are still in her room?  Mrs. Schneider
