English 9 is a class designed to develop writing skills, increase reading comprehension on the literal and figurative level, expand vocabulary, and instill an understanding and appreciation of literature. Students will use Elements of Literature Third Course, as their primary literature anthology; Elements of Writing, Third Course as their primary text for grammar and writing; and Vocabulary Workshop Level E as their primary vocabulary text. These will be supplemented throughout the year by various novels, short stories, and sample essays. Ninth graders will be engaged in preparation for the Ohio State Proficiency Tests in reading and writing, which are administered in October.
