Policies:
Students are expected to practice the virtues of Respect, Responsibility, Courtesy, and Perseverance.

bulletRespect: We are a community of learners who must treat ourselves and each other as important parts of a whole. We need each other to learn.
bulletResponsibility: As learners, we must come to class prepared, take notes, enter discussions, and meet deadlines. No learning takes place if the teacher directs for 70 minutes while the students sit passively.
bulletCourtesy: I expect to hear the words please and thank you. I expect that you address me and others politely in civil tones. I expect questions to be asked and answered politely. You can expect the same from me.
bulletPerseverance: Never give up. I expect your best effort. Each of you is capable of completing a successful senior year.

Students must follow the English directives for writing and turning in papers. This means that late papers will be assessed penalties.  All work must be completed and turned in on time. I will not give incompletes on any report unless a major illness, accident, or family problem warrants special consideration.

All work will receive some type of evaluation. This may be in the form of points, letter grades, number grades, or comments. Themes will be evaluated on content and mechanics. In class essays will be evaluated on the accuracy of the content and level of understanding of the text. Quarter projects will be graded on accuracy, originality, depth of understanding, and manuscript form. Notebooks will be graded for completeness. Seminars will be evaluated according to directives on sheet given in class.

Make up Work: See handbook.

Exam Exemption: Seniors have the opportunity to be exempt from the final second semester exam if they maintain a  B+ average from the first day of school until the last senior grade is due; all work is complete;  and  classroom behavior and participation merit  effort grades that reflect a positive attitude and work ethic.
