The art curriculum is entering into the digital age. I find this an exciting, but troubling, initiative because it puts me in a world that is not always comfortable, admittedly one in which I am sometimes merely a few steps ahead of the students when introducing new software. The exciting aspect is that the students are being exposed to the same applications that professional graphic artists are employing. An ultimate goal of this type of exposure is to encourage the students to be more media-literate, more discerning viewers of media, given that graphic media is such a pervasive expression of our popular culture. Truly, Computer Technology can assist the teacher in meeting the individual needs of all his students. As with some students who excel best in the three-dimensional art experiences there are others who are more adventurous and motivated by the quick, multi-dimensional world of computer graphics.
