We will start the year with a brief review of the skills learned in 1st Grade. We use a calendar system called "Every Day Counts" which gives
students the opportunity to analyze data, perceive patterns, explore
mathematical relationships, and communicate their thinking. It incorporates the following skills on a daily basis:
We also use a program called "Arithmetic Developed Daily". This is a daily mathematics maintenance program that contains three distinct components: mental math, basic math skill problems, and word problems. The questions are placed sequentially to insure exposure to and repetition of key mathematical concepts. We use Montessori materials to introduce new concepts and to reinforce, master and enrich their understanding of number relationships. A major portion of our math lessons focus on problem solving. We learn and use ten strategies to help the children enhance their problem solving skills. The students also have the opportunity to work at their own level in their Independent Work Folders. |
