The Summit Country Day boys soccer team has advanced to the Division V State Championship after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ottoville in Wednesday night's semifinal match. Ottoville, ending its season with an 18-4-1 record, challenged Summit with strong defensive tactics, keeping them from any shots on goal in the first half. The breakthrough came early, with two minutes into the second half, senior captain Brenden Hamilton delivered a cross from the right wing to sophomore Austin Fry. Fry controlled the ball off his chest just outside the box and struck a powerful volley that bounced past Ottoville’s goalkeeper, scoring what would become the game-winning goal. Summit continued to press, ending the night with five shots on goal, all in the second half, while Ottoville managed just one shot on target throughout the game.
Summit maintained control of possession and delivered intense offensive pressure, while Ottoville’s defense held firm in a highly physical and competitive game. With this win, Summit moves on to the State Championship game against Minford at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus on Monday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m.
