Eighth grader named middle school spelling champion

After 13 rounds of competition, eighth grader Danny Beyerbach defended his title to become Summit's two-time spelling bee champion for the Middle School.

In a contest between 25 spellers in grades 4-8, Danny came out on top by correctly spelling words such as "thurible," "lustrum" and "biryani." His title as the Middle School's best speller includes a one-year online subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica. Danny will now take an online test to qualify for the WCPO regional spelling bee for the chance to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

In second place, runner up Kyan Gatewood, a seventh grader, also received the encyclopedia subscription. Congratulations to all 25 spellers who participated in this year’s spelling bee - we're proud of your dedication to academic excellence.
