The The Summit Country Day School is proud to recognize four members of the Class of 2027 who have been named National Merit Commended Scholars: John Sumnar, Paxton Sherman, Emmett Hood and Shriyan Masineni.

The designation honors students for their exceptional academic promise and outstanding performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, approximately 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are being recognized for placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship competition.

While Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they are recognized for the high level of academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, and dedication that distinguish them among the nation's top students. The recognition adds to a strong tradition of academic achievement at The Summit Country Day School, where students are challenged to pursue excellence in the classroom while developing their talents, passions and leadership beyond it.

"Emmett, Shriyan, Paxton and John have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence that reflects both their individual talents and the strength of our learning community," said Ryan Martin, Upper School Director. "We are proud of their accomplishments and congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition."
