The Summit Country Day School is proud to announce that seniors Beatrice Nery and Katherine Shuey have been named semifinalists in the prestigious 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among fewer than one percent of U.S. high school seniors recognized for exceptional academic achievement. More than 1.2 million students entered the competition through the PSAT/NMSQT, with approximately 16,000 students nationwide advancing to Semifinalist standing.

At The Summit, Beatrice serves on the Leadership Board, plays in the band and runs cross country, while Katherine participates in Robotics and Theatre and competes on the bowling team. Both are also members of the Schiff Family Science Research Institute, where they work alongside faculty mentors and professional researchers.

"Beatrice and Katherine exemplify the intellectual curiosity, leadership, and commitment to excellence that we strive to cultivate at Summit," said Ryan Martin, Upper School Director. "Their accomplishments reflect not only remarkable academic ability, but also a deep engagement in the life of our school. We are incredibly proud of them and look forward to cheering them on as they continue in this prestigious competition."

As semifinalists, Beatrice and Katherine have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth about $24 million, which will be awarded next spring. To advance to Finalist standing, students must demonstrate an outstanding academic record, leadership, involvement in school and community activities, strong recommendations, and qualifying SAT or ACT scores.

Please join us in congratulating Beatrice and Katherine on this outstanding achievement and recognition among the nation's most accomplished young scholars.
