On a roll: Artists create fairy garden sculptures with duct tape

Rolls of colorful Duck Brand duct tape have taken over Sam England’s art room in time for the Annual Duct Tape Sculpture Exhibition in partnership with Art Academy of Cincinnati.

Middle School students learned skills like X-acto knife safety, how to rip tape, and using the self-healing mat to cut shapes from duct tape while practicing with the materials to make jellyfish characters. Then, they got to work designing sculptures for a Summit Fairy Garden. The fairy gardens are contained in large-scale terracotta pots that will soon be on exhibit in Washington Square Park in Camp Washington.

The Summit is one of only two schools in Ohio that are participating this year. Visitors to the exhibit are encouraged to take pictures of the sculptures and post them on social media with #artacademyofcincinnati and #theduckbrand for the chance to win free Duck Tape.

The show runs April 30-May 2 and then the fairy gardens will travel up to Avon, Ohio, for the Duct Tape Festival.
