Instrumental students at The Summit Country Day School delivered stellar performances at the Ohio Music Education Association Solo and Ensemble event.
Middle School Band members Colin Koran, eighth grade, Anderson Township; Meghana Curran, seventh grade, Amberley Village; and Rosie Gieseke, seventh grade, Hyde Park received “Superior” ratings.
In addition, the Summit’s flute ensemble, consisting of Haley Baker, seventh grade, Edgewood, Ky.; Hana Conte, seventh grade, Anderson Township; and Callie Fox, seventh grade, Sycamore Township earned a “Superior” rating.
Sophomore clarinetist Shannon Dennemann, Norwood, earned an "Excellent" rating. Shannon was quarantining during this period of time and received all her instruction and coaching on the solo online, and had to submit her performance without piano accompaniment.
The judge rates each performance based on specific criteria and submits a written critique with recommendations for further advancement.
“This year was quite different,” said Robert Browning, Director of Instrumental Music at The Summit. “Normally, the students would play their solos and ensemble pieces for a judge in a live performance at a local site. This year, the entire operation was done virtually. I am proud of these students for stepping up, taking on an unknown experience and doing so well.”
