Two Summit Country Day School Students had the opportunity to explore health occupations through the TAP MD Summer Academy offered by the Health Collaborative.
Seniors Megan Marburger and Ella Cary spent two weeks in June touring, participating in learning experiences and listening to doctors, nurses, sports medicine experts and occupational therapists at the UC College of Medicine, Xavier University, UC Medical Center, Atrium Medical Center, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Mercy Health West, Health Source Mt. Orab and Northern Kentucky University. They practiced patient care on patient simulators, performed sutures on bananas, examined a real brain and made ice bags for injuries.
TAP MD is a career exploration program which helps students who may be interested in medical careers understand more about the work of physicians, registered nurses and other healthcare careers.
“Megan and Ella are young scientists wishing to expose themselves to the medical profession and all it has to offer,” said Summit Upper School Biology Teacher Karen Suder. “They are naturally inquisitive and have a passion for learning while caring for others. TAP MD provided a rare opportunity to explore the field of medicine and medical research in the greater Cincinnati area.”
Summit students have been involved nearly every year in TAP MD while juggling their extracurricular activities, numerous Advanced Placement courses and programs such as Summit’s Schiff Family Science Research Institute.
