Summit students win awards at Scholastic Art and Writing event

One student from The Summit received a gold key for writing at the Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Another earned awards in both writing and art.

Altogether, 11 Summit students won 14 awards.

Junior Irene Calderon, Hyde Park, earned her gold key for her written piece entitled “Towards Understanding Covid-19."

Gold key recipients advance to compete for national medals in an exhibit that culminates with the National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City. 

Senior Lily Ritch, Hyde Park, earned two silver keys for her written pieces entitled "I'm Bringing a Friend to Dinner" and “Unrequited." She received an honorable mention for her art piece entitled “Tea Party Gown.”

The following students earned Art awards:

  • Junior Samara Bill, Springfield Township, earned a silver key for her work entitled “Piece by Piece.”
  • Junior Reagan Sutton, Hyde Park, earned a silver key for her work called “Strength in Numbers.”          
  • Junior Maria Vallota, Mt. Lookout, earned her silver key for her artwork entitled “Hidden Values.”
  • Junior Tony Zhang, Maineville, earned his silver key for his artwork called “A Night out at the Museum.” He received honorable mention for his piece entitled “Suffocation.”

The following students earned Writing awards:

  • Senior Ellie Adam, Anderson Township, received honorable mention for her written piece entitled “Creating Adventures.”
  • Senior Erin Devine, Indian Hill, received honorable mention for her work entitled “The Mirror Cracking.” 
  • Junior Jimmy Fraley, Covington, Ky., earned honorable mention for “The Present.”
  • Sophomore Angela Good, Miamiville, earned honorable mention for “A Second Life.”
  • Sophomore Rimel Kamran, Mason, received a silver key for her written piece entitled “Never Again.”  

The students are taught by Art teacher Carrie Barnett and Ceramics teacher Jamie Grauvogel.

This region of the Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is administered by the Art Academy of Cincinnati. The annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's most prestigious recognition initiative for creative students in grades 7-12 and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers in the nation.
