Sophia Nery, a rising freshman at The Summit Country Day School, finished in eighth place at the Ohio Power of the Pen state tournament.

Her achievement capped a successful season for the school’s Power of the Pen team. The group earned several awards including “Best of Round” awards at the district writing competition.

Summit competed successfully in Power of the Pen for 15 years while being coached by Rosie Sansalone, language arts teacher. After a four-year hiatus, the team is back this year with new coach Brendan McEachern.

Summit students write more than those who attend large schools. The need to write down their thoughts across all their classes not only makes them compelling communicators, it also sharpens their thinking. At The Summit, writing is the vehicle through which we transform our world.
