The Summit celebrates three students whose recent musical achievements reflect the strength of Summit's Artistic Pillar.
Sophomore Summit Band member John Trokan ’28 was chosen through an audition process to join the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE), which features top high school musicians from the Cincinnati area. The ensemble meets Sunday evenings at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where students rehearse, work with professors and graduate students and perform in several concerts each year.
Eighth grader Eliot Brown ’30 was selected as principal cello of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Concert Orchestra. He earned first chair among dozens of student cellists who auditioned from across Greater Cincinnati. The orchestra, one of two official training ensembles for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, also rehearses weekly at CCM and presents multiple concerts annually.
Sophie Pressey ’31, a seventh grade Middle School band member, was accepted into the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble Junior. CYWE Jr. includes top junior high musicians selected by audition. The group meets Sunday evenings at CCM for rehearsals and collaborative work with faculty and graduate students, taking part in several performances over the course of the year.
These honors are a testament to the dedication and talent of Summit’s young musicians and to the school’s commitment to nurturing creativity and excellence through the arts. Mr. Bob Browning, director of instrumental music for Middle and Upper School students, plays a key role in guiding and inspiring these students as they pursue their musical passions.
