Program Delivers Postseason, State-Level Play

The varsity boys’ golf team has become a postseason fixture in the last decade, and a division change has not changed its momentum. In fact, the Silver Knights have advanced to the district tournament every year since 2006.

The Summit has ascended to the state tournament 12 times since 1984, including three times under coach Tim Jedding (2008, 2010, 2017). Two individuals reached as high as No. 2 at state: Denny Kendall in 1984 and Wes Homan in 2001. Homan turned pro in 2008.  A couple more individuals, including Sean Steinman' 13 and Jake Simpson '20, have represented The Summit in the state tournament.

The program philosophy is to schedule the best golf courses possible. Each year, The Silver Knights have three matches at their home course, Cincinnati Country Club, and participate in four to five tournaments every season. The Summit also regularly plays at Camargo Club, Kenwood Country Club and Blue Ash Golf Course.

Coach Kevin Schomaker began his Summit coaching career with the JV program before being named varsity coach in 2023. He previously coached golf at Purcell Marian. His  coaching philosophy is to get each athlete to believe they can achieve more than what they previously thought possible. His goal is to qualify the team for the district meet and advance at least one golfer to the state meet each year.
