A poem written by Summit Country Day School junior Chris Guarasci will be published in a national anthology this fall.
Chris’ poem, "An Ode to the Storm," was written last year in English teacher Gail Rosero’s class. It is one of about 50 topical winners in the Live Poets Society of New Jersey’s 20th annual National High School Poetry Contest to be published in October in Live Poet’s publication "Of Love and Dedication."
According to Live Poets, fewer than 2 percent of all the poems received will be published in the anthology. The poems chosen for the publication explore how teens approach various types of love and loyalty issues.
An Ode to the Storm
By Chris Guarasci
The depths of the abyss remind me,
Of the soulless storm above.
The depths of my eyes struggle to see,
The basic emotion of love.
Love is like a wayward waters wake,
Intruding, then washing away.
Love is like the raging rains that take,
A cheerful soul for the day.
The depths of my soul cry out,
An unchecked, shapeless form.
The love I once felt cast out,
Into the depths of an ode to the storm.
