Summit hooper signs to play at NAIA’s Bethel College

Summit senior Kiana Allen, flanked by her parents, Kathy and William, signed to play basketball at Bethel College (Ind.).

During her career in Flannery Gym, the Miami Valley Conference and around the city, senior Kiana Allen, Mason, helped pilot The Summit to a 73-6 record in her three years on the team.

On May 14, Kiana signed to play basketball with the Pilots of Bethel College (Ind.). The team plays in the Crossroads League under the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) designation.

“Kiana made an immediate impact on the program and was instrumental in all of our success the past three years,” said Beth Simmons, girls’ basketball coach and Assistant Athletic Director. “While we will miss her presence on the court at The Summit, I know she will do great things for the program at Bethel College.”

Kiana had a hand in a lot of wins for The Summit and she will get her chance to infuse her winning ways with her next team. The Pilots finished 7-23 last season.

In her senior season, Kiana was first-team all-MVC and honorable mentions on the Associated Press all-Southwest Ohio and all-City teams.

Kiana currently holds The Summit record for most made three-pointers in a game (eight), and most three-pointers made in a season (73).

“Her ability to shoot outside really opened up the floor us offensively,” Beth said.

She has the opportunity to spark the Pilots’ offense. As a team, Bethel shot 32.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Kiana is also an active defender.

“Her defense and ability to get into the pass lane was instrumental in key games and helped lead us to a 26-1 record,” Beth said.

The Pilots are coached by Eric Gingerich.
