Girls’ soccer to play 700th match; Fee to coach 350th game

Summit girls' soccer head coach Mike Fee, center, will be at the helm of the program's 700th game and will be coaching in his 350th.

Barring any cancellations, The Summit Country Day School girls’ soccer team will play its 700th match in school history at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25 against Seton at The Summit’s Williams Field. It will also be head coach Mike Fee’s 350th game at the helm of the program.

The team, since its inception 37 years ago, has been successful. Former coaches such as Betty Kuhling, M.J. Gleeson and Garry Roberts helped get the program on a good path. Each of those coaches won better than two-thirds of their games.

Mr. Fee has taken that success and vaulted it to a new level. He has coached the team to three state championships (2011, 2015 and 2017). Also, of the program’s 17 Miami Valley Conference titles, Mr. Fee has coached the team for nine of them.

“I have been so blessed to be part of this program for so many years,” Mr. Fee said. “More important than the games played and titles won has been the dozens and dozens of relationships this position has allowed me to foster with so many former players. I value that more than anything else. I cannot express how grateful I feel to be part of a special community and program.”

Many players have gone on to college to continue their soccer careers. To name a few, Ravin Alexander ’18, Jessica De Jesus '17, Bryce Hueber '14, Gracie Kunkel '16, Lily Melink '18 and Mimi Stines '18 are all playing at the next level.
