Freshman Irene Calderon from The Summit Country Day School is the new third chair flutist in the Ohio Music Education Association District 14 Honor Band.

Robert Browning, the Director of Instrumental Music at The Summit, called the OMEA Honor Band an “all-Star team.” The band consists of the top students from all schools in Hamilton County.

Students must audition for a spot in the band. The audition process includes performing a prepared selection, scales from memory and an impromptu piece the students have not seen nor practiced.

She returns to the band after performing with the group last year under the direction of Dr. Brandon Jones, an Associate Professor in Wittenberg University’s Music department.

Irene, Hyde Park, will rehearse with the band three times and then will perform a public concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13 at Princeton High School.
