Eighth grader Logan Miller, Ft. Thomas, Ky., was the last speller standing in a field of 25 spellers who participated in The Summit’s annual Harold C. Schott Middle School spelling bee on Jan. 9 in Kyte Theater.
Logan became the winner after six rounds and outlasted spellers in grades 4-8. He spelled the following words to earn champion status: loaf, boasted, dormer, antagonism, armada and bronchitis.
From there, Logan takes a 50-question online test. If he scores well enough on that digital exam, Logan qualifies for the WCPO 9 On Your Side Spelling Bee in March. The next step is the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The Summit has a rich history of sending its students to the bee.
