Summit CDS Math Club competes at UC Math Bowl

Summit students participate in math bowl at the University of Cincinnati

Members of The Summit Country Day School Math Club gather at the University of Cincinnati (UC) on the day of the UC Math Bowl.

Summit Country Day School freshmen and sophomore mathletes made quite an impression at the University of Cincinnati Math Bowl on March 2. 

The Level 2 team category for Geometry and Algebra 2, Summit freshmen Irene Calderon, Hyde Park; Nicholas Ciaccio, Mariemont; Ze “Alan” Liu, Mason; and Dong “Tony” Zhang, Maineville; and sophomore Mengchen “Ophelia” Li, Mason; received the highest rating of superior. 

“Accelerating our Middle School math program has resulted in a higher performing group of students in Math Club, says Eric Unwin, Upper School math teacher and Math Club coordinator. “You can see that in how well our 9th and 10th graders did at the U.C. Math Bowl in the level 2 group. “Our freshmen and sophomores are consistently rated Superior, because they typically are a year ahead of others around the city.” 

Also at the event, the Level 1 Calculus team of sophomore Yunbo “Bonnie” Wang, Blue Ash; and juniors Maliah Bricking, Sharonville; Peini “Penny” Song, Madeira; Shiyi “Freya” Fang, Mason, and Jiamin “Jane” Zhou, Mason, received a rating of excellent. 

The Level 1 Calculus team of juniors William Fassler, Hyde Park, Sicheng “Oliver” Ai, Mason; Wanli “Vennis” Yang, Maineville; Zejun “Mark” Zhou, Mason; and Donhua “Danial” Zhang, Mason, received a good rating at the competition.
