Piano and Violin

Research shows that playing a musical instrument is advantageous to developing the brain. Learning to play piano or violin develops the coordination of hands, eyes and ears. The skills, understanding, and appreciation of music that your child attains now, can be a source of enjoyment and relaxation throughout their entire life.

The Summit Country Day School offers individual musical instruction on the violin and piano during the school day. Lessons are offered to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 for 40 minutes each week.  Piano students in Kindergarten through grade 3 receive their lessons in two parts on two separate days.

Teaching is individualized to suit each student with the emphasis on proper technique, reading of music, musical interpretation and the enjoyment of making music. 

The cost of lessons is $1,035 per semester, which includes music books that each student receives.

Enrollment for piano and violin occurs by the semester and begin after one full week of school in the fall and continue until the last week of school in the spring. During the last week of school, teachers will make up any lessons missed due to the teacher’s absence.

In December, piano and violin students play for one another at holiday celebrations. In the spring, students perform in recitals, which classmates, families and friends attend. There are also opportunities to perform at school functions and outside of school performances.

Having a piano on which to practice is essential. If you enroll your child in piano and do not yet have a piano we ask that you make arrangements to secure one before lessons begin in August.
