Tom was awarded the Ne Ultra Award during the 2023 Founder’s Day ceremony, shortly before his death at the age of 86. He believed in the transformative power of education.
Ne Ultra Award
Ne ultra means “none higher” in Latin. This award is given annually to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the future progress of The Summit. They are models for our culture of philanthropy and their generosity means Summit can continue to develop Leaders of Character who value and improve the world.
The significant impact Francie and Tom Hiltz have had on The Summit over decades of time earned them the Ne Ultra Award during the 2022 Founders Day celebrations.
Through their leadership and generosity, Mary (Foss) Brinkmeyer '67 and her husband, Joe, have made an indelible mark on the history of The Summit. They were given the Ne Ultra Award in 2019.
Edward “Hap” Castleberry SBS '46 has shown deep care for students and teachers through endowments for scholarships and faculty development. He received the Ne Ultra Award in 2018.
Dawn and Dr. Robert C. Schiff Jr. were lead contributors to the Aiming Higher campaign which funded major campus improvements. That and many acts of generosity earned them the Ne Ultra Award in 2017.
Martha “Marty” (Hillenbrand) Ragland and Howard Nicholas “Nick” Ragland III "occupy a prominent niche in the top row of the pantheon of great Summit families." They received the Ne Ultra Award in 2016.
Helen (DeCourcy) Williams ’38 lived the mission of The Summit. A longtime leader at The Summit and generous benefactor, she was given the inaugural Ne Ultra Award in 2014.
