Inspiration: I became a music teacher because I enjoyed explaining things to other students, especially in music. I could not imagine doing anything other than what I do. I left my job in a public school where I was earning a larger salary. I came here because I was looking for new challenges in my classroom with regard to technology and new courses. I also wanted to be in an environment where the things I valued were also valued by students, families, faculty and staff.
Philosophy: Every child has a gift to contribute. My job is to cultivate that gift and provide opportunities for growth and success now and in the future.
Personal: Husband, Tom Merrill, Director of Center for Innovation and former Director of Choral Activities at Xavier University; former Director of Choral Music at The Summit; daughter, Regina, a Summit lifer. Member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a section leader/soloist with the Knox Choir which presents an annual music series of sacred concerts. Member and frequent soloist with the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati. Has performed as a soloist with Musica Sacra, The Cincinnati Choral Society, the Richmond Symphony and Earlham College. Has recorded with the Cleveland Orchestra on London Decca records.
