Requirements for Graduation

Twenty-five credits are required for graduation from the Upper School. The Summit provides each student with educational options that exceed the state minimum standards. These include, but are not limited to, independent study courses, educational travel and the Senior Search mentor program. Within our framework of required credits, there are various departmental requirements.

The credits are accumulated as follows:

Religion: One credit during each year in attendance
English: Four credits
Social Studies: Three credits to include two courses: World And American History
Mathematics: Four credits to include: Algebra I and II, and Geometry

Science: Three credits to include: Biology, Chemistry and Physics
World Languages: Three credits of one language, or two credits (each) of two
Physical Education: One-half credit or two seasons of a team sport
Health Education: One-half credit
Fine Arts: One credit
Electives: One credit
Speech: One-quarter credit (semester during freshman year)
Leadership: One-half credit (semester sophomore year and semester junior year)
Senior Financial Literacy: One-quarter credit

In addition to these required credits, each student must successfully pass the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) and successfully complete a Senior Search project prior to graduation.
